4th of july barbeque chicken
4th of july is my favorite holiday. it always has been. when you are a rasmussen, it is a lot of work, but it is work that we all do together and that is what makes it fun. for as long as i can remember, we have cooked chicken for 1,000 for the neola community celebration. my parents are awesome examples of community service. two years ago my mom asked if someone else could take over the preparation for the rest of the meal (green salad, potato salad, rolls and dessert). now we are just in charge of the chicken and it is almost relaxing (unless you are a male rasmussen). we have always been so busy during the event that we have very few pictures of this annual tradition, so this year i took lots of pictures. so many memories for me...i can almost smell the chicken now. yum!

mom and i whip up the marinade which includes gallons and gallons of oil and vinegar, dozens and dozens of eggs and cups and cups of salt and seasonings.

the guys start the fires and throw in some charcoal. the back of this truck was full of charcoal when they started.

chickens are on and cookin'.

camping
a while back i mentioned that we were going to go camping for our anniversary. well we did and here are the pictures to prove it. it rained nearly the entire time, but we enjoyed ourselves.

we drew pictures to entertain jake and when that wasn't enough, matt drew on himself and jake with soot from the fire. as if we weren't dirty enough already. i think that it was more entertaining for matt than it was for jake.

throwing rocks in the river was a favorite of jake's.

running everywhere

we spent a lot of time inside the newly remodeled camper. i didn't bring toys for jake (oops) so we improvised. he got to play in my makeup (luckily he can't open it yet) and with cards.

happy campers! matt packed for himself and somehow forgot to bring a jacket. he spent the whole time in my white, girls camp hoodie.

enjoying the fire, under the shelter that matt constructed with a tarp. what a handy guy to have around. i think that it is time to go camping again.

more rass reunion pictures
ATV riding was awesome, but how did i end up the dirtiest???

jake's helmet was way too big, but required by law. who am i to question the law.

nevertheless, he was in pure heaven.

if only he were old enough to drive.

tanner and cole...a little weird, but i love them. they are the best of cousins and friends. shortly after this picture, tyler (in background) de-pants tanner and i got a picture of it. i will save that for the family album.

stacy and sadie...dirty and happy.

anna and emma rode in the 6 person ATV with grandpa and grandma all day.

hawaii 5-0 (or is it hawaii five-o?)

without the helmet, i just call him maverick. the sunglasses were my idea, not his. i kinda like them.

i have turned into a real sissy. i could never quite make it out of the hot tub and into the pool. anna had the right idea as far as i am concerned.

tyler had his hands full with jake, avery and sai, but eventually jake fell asleep while floating. so heavenly...

grandpa told scary stories about side-hill galoops to the kids.

grandma magically put jake to sleep. jake would never think about falling asleep in my arms. sometimes i think that grandma secretes benadryl through her pores. all the kids love to snuggle with grandma.
jake did not have a single nap in his crib. we were too busy. he was a great sport.

you are getting sleepy...

the kids performed an impromptu skit directed by cole and some of their talents. these three little monkeys were hillarious to watch. they are the three musketeers, blake, sai and sadie, born within a couple of months of each other.

jake got his own ice cream cone.

my sister stacy is special in so many ways.

the best mom and dad, grandma and grandpa in the whole world.

the falls were so cool, other than the countless panic attacks that i had.

this child runs everywhere!

grandpa and avery made me nervous too!

jake and avery, best buddies (other than when jake hits her or takes her toy or....you know what i mean).

cute girls, emma and anna.
